Polygamy in the Media

USA Today
USA Today published the November 24, 2006 report from the AP.
On their web-site, USA Today titled it, "Polygamists say criminal case against Jeffs paints distorted picture."
The article also includes a large AP photo of Mark Henkel himself.
Although that was USA Today's first report directly involving (and including a photo of) Mr. Henkel, USA Today had long known about him previously. On October 3, 2004, USA Today published an op-ed by Constitutional Law Professor, Jonathan Turley, titled, "Polygamy laws expose our own hypocrisy." In the op-ed, the Professor used the identical argument of a known sound-bite of TruthBearer.org's Mark Henkel. On October 14, 2004, the TruthBearer.org organization responded by issuing a press release through Pro-Polygamy.com, the media distribution site. It was titled, "USA TODAY Op-Ed Copies Pro-Polygamy Organization's Arguments." (Internet URLs and evidence were further provided there, too.) Later on that very same day that it was released to the media, USA Today rightly sought out and contacted Mr. Henkel by telephone about the issue. Mr. Henkel indicated to USA Today that neither he nor the organzation had any desire to pursue legal action as it was appreciated that the organization's arguments were being vindicated by a renowned Constitutional Law Professor. Four days later, on October 18, 2004, an article appeared in the Wall Street Journal, referencing both the media distribution site, Pro-Polygamy.com, and Jonathan Turley's op-ed. Grateful, the TruthBearer.org organization immediately issued another press release that same day, through Pro-Polygamy.com, titled, "WSJ Helps End Polygamy Controversy of 'Turley's Arguments.'" The matter was resolved. But a year and a half after that, Mr. Turley did it again. On April 2, 2006, USA Today published a new Turley op-ed, titled, "How to end the same-sex marriage debate." In it, Mr. Turley used the exact same argument from Mr. Henkel's well-established and renowned sound-bite about how polygamy rights can end the marriage debate altogether. A "special report" about the entire sequence of events (with evidentiary URLs, etc.) was distributed to the media through Pro-Polygamy.com on May 2, 2006. It was titled, "Again, Jonathan Turley Repeats Polygamy Organization's Arguments." The report concluded with gratitude to Professor Turley for repeating and advocating Mr. Henkel's well-established arguments. Throughout, USA Today has received all the distributions of articles and reports to the media from Pro-Polygamy.com. So, long before USA Today published the November 24, 2006 report from the AP, that newspaper, USA Today, had already known about the TruthBearer.org organization and its founder, Mark Henkel.
