On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger airplanes. They crashed two into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, one into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and one which hit no target but was instead crashed into the ground in Pennsylvania. All the passengers and crews of all four planes were immediately killed in these suicide terror attacks. As a consequence of the crashes into the two skyscraper towers, both towers ultimately crumbled to the ground, further causing massive horrific devastation and profound loss of life. The United States had been attacked in a
terrorist act of war.
